Alongside the MIF projects we create and present in collaboration with other organisations, which premiere in Manchester and then travel the world, we also work closely with MIF artists on unique touring projects. We’ve developed great working relationships with these artists at previous Festivals: it’s been exciting to support them as they work on new projects after MIF, while also spreading the word about the Festival around the globe.
Björk gave the world premiere of her spectacular Biophilia project in Upper Campfield Market Hall during MIF11, then returned to the Festival four years later to present the first European performances of songs from Vulnicura. Through this close working relationship, the incomparable Icelandic singer invited MIF to take Björk Digital, her extraordinary new multimedia exhibition, on tour around the world during 2016 and 2017.
River of Fundament
Matthew Barney and Jonathan Bepler visited MIF13 to discuss River in Fundament and screen exclusive excerpts from what was then a work-in-progress. In 2014, the pair finally completed this ambitious six-hour cinematic epic – and MIF has since worked with the duo to present it in around 20 locations around the world, everywhere from Australia to Greenland.
