Monster
28 June 2007 - 7 July 2007 Royal Exchange Theatre
England: a country frightened of its young, a country of ASBOs, hoodies and happy slapping. How has our youth got so out of control? In a classroom somewhere a teacher, Tom, is alone with Darryl, an excluded boy, in an effort to teach him where all else has failed.
Duncan Macmillan (currently writer on attachment at the Royal Exchange Theatre) takes on some of the most pressing issues of our time. Powerful, tense, frightening and humane, MONSTER deals with relationships between teachers and pupils, young and old, generation and generation. Can people reach out to each other or are the things in our past too powerful to allow change?
