The Assembly
30 June 2007 - 26 Aug. 2007 Cornerhouse
The Assembly is a new film installation by artist Rachel Davies, based on her teenage memories of being in the Manchester Girls Choir in the early 1980s. Remarkably, the choir welcomed all and yet became known for its international prize-winning ability. Members of the original choir have reassembled for the making of this piece.
Blending social realism, adolescent fantasy, performance and pop, The Assembly is a celebration of a community. It harnesses the power of memory to summon emotional and spiritual forces, which merge with the routine of our daily lives.
