READ: MEET BINK

Bink is a Deep Flow participant. Here, they tell us about their experience rehearsing over the past few months.

It started on the 9th of September and we meet every Saturday for two hours. There are five groups of 20 people and each one has a different theme. Our group theme is wood – one of the five elements of qi gong.

We have been rehearsing at Moss Side Powerhouse with choreographers Carlos and Sara from Company Chameleon – the loveliest, most energetic people. Each session is tailored to the ability and preferences of how the participants want to move. Carlos and Sara are very receptive to what we want to do.

All the groups came together this week, which is about 70 people. It was really nice to see what other groups have been rehearsing. We are a mix of people of all ages and abilities. It’s been really nice to share that space with people who I’m not usually around. We also got to reconnect with some of the Free Your Mind community performers and participants. It was lovely to see some of them as part of The Welcome.

I have loved how wholesome it has been and how it has helped me grow in confidence through movement and with people I’ve never met before. My group has kept me feeling calm despite challenges, pre-show nerves and stage fright.

We’ve realised it’s not about being professional dancers, but about coming together to participate.
