This week on the blog: a bunch of fives! For the next five days, we’ll be asking five questions to each of the five food traders who are on Festival Square from Friday 30 June to Sunday 16 July. First up, it’s some old friends of the Festival: Honest Crust, whose pizzas were such a huge hit at MIF15…
First things first: who are you?
I’m Richard Carver from Honest Crust Wood Fired Pizza, and we’ve been making and baking sourdough pizza topped with the finest British and Italian produce since 2013. We started as a mobile street food operation, taking our wood-fired oven on wheels around the North West to markets, food festivals, street food events and so on. My brother Thomas, my brother-in-law Lee and I were all stay-at-home dads, so it was just a little weekend distraction to begin with.
In five words, what are you serving on Festival Square?
Great pizza and seasonal salads.
What’s the most popular item on your menu?
The classic margherita outsells everything by two to one. Of our less traditional creations, the fennel sausage and pistachio pizza always goes down well.
Of the other traders on Festival Square, whose food are you most excited to try?
I’ve been lucky enough to try them all before, but I’m definitely excited to see what Hispi brings to the Square. I’m a big fan of their approach to simple, well-executed food.
When you’re not at MIF, where can people find you?
We have a permanent spot at the Market House in Altrincham, and we’ll be part of the Mackie Mayor project in Manchester later this summer.
Honest Crust are serving their pizzas and salads on Festival Square from noon every day from Friday 30 June to Sunday 16 July. Come back tomorrow to meet our friends from Manjit’s Kitchen.
