‘They only present works that have never been seen before. The fact that they risk the production of such works is exciting – they are doing what no one else is doing and I salute them’ Robert Wilson, director of The Life and Death of Marina Abramović (MIF11) and The Old Woman (MIF13)

The MIF International Circle was founded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in 2015 in order to support MIF’s wide-ranging international programme.

Since the first edition of MIF in 2007, we have invited a tremendous variety of outstanding artists from around the world to develop and present new works at the Festival. Over the last decade, we have built a global reputation for the quality and ambition of the works we produce – in the words of The Financial Times, ‘Few cultural events worldwide have established themselves with such clarity and self-confidence as MIF’.

To commission and produce the works on our biennial programme, we often collaborate closely with international partners, who then go on to present the works after their premieres at MIF. For example, wonder.land was co-commissioned by the National Theatre in London and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, both of which staged the show following its premiere at the Palace Theatre during MIF15.

Other MIF projects go on to tour the world after their Manchester premieres. In recent years, we have taken our shows to venues as diverse as English National Opera in London, Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York and the Palais Garnier in Paris, and to festivals including Art Basel in Switzerland, Vivid in Sydney and Luminato in Toronto.

The MIF International Circle provides valuable backing for both our unique co-commissioning collaborations and our extensive touring schedule. To become a member, we suggest making a minimum donation of £10,000, either as a one-off payment or in instalments. As MIF is a registered charity, all but £925 of your donation will be eligible for Gift Aid – which increases the value of your gift to us by 25%.
