As part of MIF17 we delivered a series of free public dance workshops, masterclasses and open rehearsals during the festival, each one hosted by a leading international company, choreographer or movement practitioner: Boris Charmatz (10000 Gestures), the Lucinda Childs Company (Available Light), Company Wayne McGregor (ToGather), Frantic Assembly (Fatherland) and Reggie ‘Regg Roc’ Gray (FlexN Manchester). A selection of the workshops were open to trained dancers, while others were suitable for beginners with no experience.


Frantic Assembly: Devising & Physicality Workshop

Participants were invited to discover Frantic Assembly’s unique approach to creating physical material. The two-hour workshop was led by Eddie Kay, choreographer of Fatherland. This workshop was suitable for all – no previous experience was necessary.

 


Boris Charmatz: 10000 Gestures Open Rehearsals

This was a unique opportunity to watch Boris Charmatz and his 25-strong ensemble in rehearsal for 10000 Gestures, which was presented at MIF17 from 13 to 15 July.

Dancers from Company Wayne McGregor, who took part in ToGather at MIF17, led a professional-level workshop for dance students and local dance artists aged 18+.

A professional-level workshop for dance students and local dance artists aged 16+ led by dancers from the Lucinda Childs Company, who performed in Available Light as part of MIF17.

 


FlexN Introductory Workshop

New York dancer-choreographer Reggie ‘Regg Roc’ Gray who introduced the FlexN street dance phenomenon to Manchester as part of MIF15 returned to MIF to work with both budding and experienced local dancers to explore a new style.
