Alina Ibragimova
The Quay Brothers

This powerful piece took audiences down the rabbit hole and led them around the hidden medieval spaces of Chetham’s School of Music and Chetham’s Library for a new kind of recital. Violinist Alina Ibragimova’s electrifying performances and the haunting staging and film by the Quay Brothers illuminated perfectly the venue’s crepuscular corners, and audiences emerged back into the centre of 21st-century Manchester blinking.

‘The venue and the Quay Brothers brought something out in the music that often stays in the shadows; lurking under the dazzling and impassioned surface of the four pieces is a network of meanings and correspondences… all this summoned up an atmosphere of anxiety and grief, given focus by Ibragimova’s impassioned yet controlled performance’ The Daily Telegraph
