Manchester is currently building The Factory, a world-class cultural space in the heart of the city – and a new year-round home for MIF, where we’ll stage one of the most ambitious and adventurous creative programmes in Europe.
In the lead-up to its opening, we’ve been presenting a series of pre-Factory events, previewing the sort of work we plan to commission, produce and present in this extraordinary new space. From ballet world premieres to thrilling electronic music nights, this special series is driven by the same ambition that defines MIF. Read about our previous pre-Factory events on these pages – and look out for announcements of future events.
In 2016, we collaborated with English National Ballet and Sadler’s Wells to present the world premiere of Akram Khan’s Giselle. One of the greatest romantic ballets of all time, Giselle is the first full length ballet choreographed by Akram Khan and saw Academy-Award winning designer Tim Yip (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) create the set and costumes, while musician, composer, and producer Vincenzo Lamagna created an adaptation of the original score by Adolphe Adam, performed by English National Ballet Philharmonic.
