A Closer Look at The Factory
Welcome to The Factory!
Click below to enter a virtual rendering of The Factory, a world-class cultural space being developed in the heart of Manchester.
Look around in all directions by moving your phone, or drag around the environment with your finger, mouse or trackpad.
If you have a Cardboard VR headset, enable screen rotation on your smartphone and tap the dotted menu icon in the top right corner. Tap “WebVR Mode” and place your device horizontally inside the headset.
To enable WebVR mode on an Apple device running iOS 12.2 or later, please first navigate to your device Settings, tap Safari, and turn on the toggle switch next to Motion and Orientation Access. Alternatively, the Virtual Factory should work without additional adjustments in the Chrome mobile browser.
Unfortunately, older devices may not be fully compatible with the Factory VR experience. Find us in Festival Square every day from 12:00-20:00 during MIF19, and at Interdependence on Saturday 20th July to experience the full scale of Manchester’s newest arts venue.
About The Factory
At 13,300 square metres, The Factory will be ultra-flexible, enabling large-scale artistic work of invention and ambition that isn’t made anywhere else. Dance, theatre, music, opera, visual arts, popular culture and innovative contemporary work incorporating the latest digital technologies will come together in ground-breaking combinations. Here, the world’s best artists will let their imaginations run free as they experiment and embark on new collaborations, the fruits of which will be premiered in Manchester before travelling the world.
The Factory is being led by Manchester City Council and will be operated year-round by MIF. Designed by world-leading architects OMA, founded by Rem Koolhaas, the project is currently funded by Manchester City Council, HM Government and the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
The Factory VR experience was developed by Soluis Group.
