Festival Square – Access information
Festival Square is located on Albert Square (outside Manchester Town Hall, M60 2LA), a large open-air public space in the heart of Manchester city centre.
Festival Square is approximately 3 minutes’ walk from St Peter’s Square Metrolink, which has step-free access to the platforms. It is around ten minutes from Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink (which has lift access) and from Deansgate and Victoria railway stations.
There is limited Blue Badge parking close to Festival Square, the nearest is on Queen St/Lincoln Square (1 bay) and on Mount Street behind Central Library (7 bays). For a full map of accessible bays in the city centre, please visit Manchester City Council website.
There are three entrances to Festival Square, the main entrance at the northwest corner of Albert Square, an entrance opposite Brazenose St directly in front of the Town Hall, and an entrance on at the southwest corner of Albert Square on Mount Street. All three entrances have step-free access.
There are toilets, including accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility, located inside the Town Hall extension on Mount Street. These can be reached from the southwest corner of Festival Square and are a couple of minutes’ walk from the main part of the square.
There is step-free access to all areas of Festival Square, except for the roof terrace.
The flooring in Festival Square is a mix of brick cobbles, decking and rubber matting (inside the Pavilion), and may be uneven in places.
There is a lowered accessible service point at the bar inside the Pavilion and at the bar in the Barn (which can be accessed via a ramp) – if you’re in any doubt, an MIF volunteer will be able to show you where these are.
There is a variety of seating on offer around the Square, including seats with arms and backrests.
There is a dedicated viewing area available for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues at the front of the stage for events inside the Pavilion – spaces here will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Some events in Festival Square will involve high noise levels and lighting effects including strobing – these will be clearly signposted around the Square.
