Five foodie questions: Manjit’s Kitchen


All week on the blog, we’re asking five quick questions to each of the five food traders who are on Festival Square from Friday 30 June to Sunday 16 July. After Honest Crust got us started yesterday, we’re speaking today with the very excellent Indian street food specialists at Manjit’s Kitchen


First things first: who are you?

I’m Manjit Kaur, Indian street food chef and the owner of Manjit’s Kitchen. I started in 2010; then, various awards and festivals later, I opened a café at the iconic Kirkgate Market in Leeds.


In five words, what are you serving on Festival Square?

Indian vegetarian street food and snacks. [That’s six words. We’ll let him off – Ed.]


What’s the most popular item on your menu?

The chilli paneer wrap.


Of the other traders on Festival Square, whose food are you most excited to try?

I’ve traded at MIF before and absolutely love the atmosphere on Festival Square. I remember sitting in a deckchair eating a Ginger’s Comfort Emporium ice cream and watching the world go by. The last MIF I lived on Honest Crust pizza, so I can’t wait to revisit those memories!


When you’re not at MIF, where can people find you?

As well as my café in Kirkgate Market in Leeds, I have a converted horsebox that I take to various events and festivals.
