Get involved in #MIF19

We had a fantastic turnout for our MIF Spring Social at YES on Wednesday evening. Our Creative Engagement team talked through the many ways to get involved in this year’s festival, as well as some incredible performances from our previous and current Jerwood Fellows, local dancers and choir, Chorus of Others.

Whether you’re interested in volunteering, hosting your own micro-festival, participating in a show or meeting new friends, there are so many ways for you to get involved in #MIF19. Here are a few…

Host your own micro-festival
MIF has been supporting people across Greater Manchester to host inspiring community arts events in their own homes through Festival in My House since 2016. No experience is required, with each host helped every step of the way by an experienced team, as well as being given a budget of £1,500. From virtual reality experiences to classical Indian dance performances, no two events are the same and the only limit is your imagination!

Become a volunteer
From helping in MIF’s city-centre offices to greeting the public at Festival events, MIF’s diverse and supportive community of volunteers are one of the Festival’s greatest assets. Passionate about culture, the Festival and the city, volunteers are crucial in making every stage of the Festival experience happen. If you’d like to help out during MIF19 whilst learning new skills along the way, you can sign up here. Application deadline is 25 April.

Take part in an MIF show
We’re looking for people across Greater Manchester to get involved in the run-up to MIF19’s opening event on Thursday 4 July – Yoko Ono’s BELLS FOR PEACE. From sharing your story of a bell with an interesting history to joining one of the bell-making ceramics workshops taking place in all 10 boroughs, all are invited to be part of the people’s orchestra and ring and sing out for peace in Cathedral Gardens. There are many other ways to participate this year, head to participate to find out more.

Become a member
If you’d like to stay close and feel more involved with all the Festival activity you can become an MIF Member. You’ll receive priority booking for events, be one of the first to hear about this year’s programme developments as the seventh Festival unfolds, as well as the latest news about MIF and The Factory, the landmark cultural space being built in the heart of the city.

Perform on Festival Square

We’re also looking for exciting performers and artists in every genre from Greater Manchester to showcase their talents on Festival Square this summer. For 18 extraordinary days, Festival Square in Albert Square is the home of MIF in the heart of the city: always busy, always buzzing and always free. During MIF19, which takes place 4-21 July, performers from across the city in a multitude of diverse genres and styles will be live every day – and the main thing we ask from our artists is that you leave your audience smiling.
