In this Training Academy we’ll be looking to recruit for Kickstart Internships at Manchester International Festival.

The Factory Academy’s Kickstart Training Academies are a series of training programmes designed to introduce young people to the creative industries, gain confidence and learn new skills. They’re fully funded, with no cost to participants, and are open to anyone in Greater Manchester aged 19-24 and on Universal Credit.

On this page, you can learn more about Kickstart Training Academies – and you can register for free to take part in a future Academy. If you are an employer in the creative sector and would like to find out how to take part in the scheme, please visit this page.

What’s a Kickstart Training Academy?

Kickstart Training Academies have been created to introduce young people in Greater Manchester to the possibility of starting a new career in the creative industries. They’re perfect for anybody who wants to:

  • Develop new skills for working in the creative sector
  • Discover what goes on behind the scenes at a major creative organisation
  • Get first-hand guidance and instruction from creative industry experts
  • Work on a special creative project designed specifically for the Academy

Kickstart Training Academies are fully funded – which means that you don’t need to pay a fee to take part.

Who runs Kickstart Training Academies?

Kickstart Training Academies are created and run by The Factory Academy, which was launched in 2018 by Manchester International Festival (MIF) to deliver training for people looking to start new careers in the cultural and creative industries.

The Factory Academy will eventually be based at The Factory, a world-class cultural space that’s currently being built in the heart of Manchester.

Who can apply?

Kickstart Training Academies are open to all Greater Manchester residents aged 19-24 and who are on Universal Credit. You don’t need any experience whatsoever – the programme is open to anyone who’s interested in starting a new career in the creative industries.

When do the next Academies take place?

Our next Kickstart Training Academy takes place from 24 January – 11 February. In this Training Academy we’ll be looking to recruit for Kickstart Internships at Manchester International Festival. Upon completion of the Academy you will be guaranteed an interview for a 6-month paid Kickstart role at MIF.

How can I register?

To reserve your free place, please register online no later than Sunday 23 January.

Kickstart Training Academies are part of Factory Futures, The Factory Academy’s series of entry-level training programmes for the creative industries.
