My Festival has presented many different Social and Welcome events over the past eight months – but what exactly are these one-off events around Manchester?
- Social events could be anything from a tea party or film night to a simple evening of conversations – all hosted by local residents and communities around Manchester who may have previously had little interaction with MIF.
- Welcome events are produced by local residents and communities in connection with a specific MIF event. Through conversations, meetings and workshops, each community designs and hosts their own Welcome, inviting audiences to learn more about MIF and the communities’ interests in the city.
My Festival’s Social and Welcome events have featured artistic responses, creative conversations and even cultural cuisine – and each one has been very special. If you’re interested in organising a future event, sign up to My Festival for updates on how you can get involved.
Join our next Summer Social on 8 Sept
We are delighted to share details of our next gathering taking place on Saturday 8 September, 1.30pm – 4.00pm within the beautiful surroundings of Hulme Community Garden Centre, (28 Old Birley Street, Hulme, Manchester, M15 5RF), a gorgeous green space housed in the heart of Hulme.
This will be a free, family friendly event with live music, including a very special performance by the Amani Choir and poetry and spoken word performances by Afshan D’souza-Lodhi as well as creative activities and fun for the family, including banner making and face-painting.
This social is being shaped in collaboration with participants who took part in ToGather, a major new exhibition and performance by artist Susan Hefuna presented at The Whitworth as part of MIF17. We are really pleased to be collaborating with the group and working together to shape the activities for this next social.
Everyone is welcome to come along, however to help us to get an idea of numbers please sign up here to register your interest in joining us on at the event.
See you there!
Social and Welcome events are a part of My Festival, supported by the Baring Foundation, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
