On a rather rainy Saturday afternoon in September MIF held a social for our growing Creative Community within the beautiful surroundings of Hulme Community Garden Centre, a gorgeous green space housed in the heart of Hulme.

This social was shaped in collaboration with participants who took part in ToGather, a major new exhibition and performance by artist Susan Hefuna presented at The Whitworth as part of MIF17. Through the summer MIF worked with the group to plan activities and shape the programme for the social.

The rain didn’t dampen our spirits and we enjoyed a lovely afternoon of family friendly activities including a very special performance by the Amani Choir as well as poetry and spoken word performances by Afshan D’souza-Lodhi and members of the group. Guests also took part in banner making, face-painting and henna design workshops. Refreshments and delicious vegetarian food was provided by Café Oooh La La.

The event was documented and creatively captured by Beth McManus and Tess Vandenberg.
