Manchester International Festival is currently piloting a new year round programme of activity to introduce new family audiences to our biennial Festival.
Earlier this year we worked with Z-Arts to bring Studio ORKA from Belgium, who presented their beautifully charming show INUK, to schoolchildren in North Manchester.
Studio ORKA, one of Europe’s most prestigious theatre companies, have created a show full of poetic, playful and magical moments. Performed in a specially built set, audiences are immersed in the action, transported to a hotel lobby where a storm is raging outside for a unique site-specific experience. A funny, heart-warming, and unforgettable show, INUK is about friendship, family ties and finding peace.
Students from Manchester Communication Academy received front of house training to welcome audiences, check tickets, help them to find their seats, and made sure the public’s visit was safe and enjoyable. In meeting the production and creative team they gained invaluable insight into the roles and responsibilities of MIF staff in Technical Production, Producing and Press. Our Creative Engagement team and Z-Arts hosted a range of drama workshops with Manchester Communication and Primary Academy in Harpurhey to promote student understanding of INUK as well invite their families to the performances. The school also hosted a special VIP opening night for students where craft activities were offered inspired by the performance.
