Take part in The Anvil at MIF19

Join MIF and Hulme Community Garden Centre for a series of creative workshops, suitable for all ages and led by local artist Tasha Whittle. Exploring climate change and climate action, we’ll be making 100’s of paper birds that will feature in one of the 15 episodes of The Anvil that are taking place throughout the city centre on Sunday 7 July.

Manchester cyclists
If you’re a cyclist aged 18 or over, join us for a mass cycle ride and performance in the city centre as part of The Anvil on Sunday 7 July. We’re looking for 30 cyclists to take part in a short piece of pop-up theatre, led by playwright Billy Cowan and director Louise Lowe, that will take place several times throughout the day.

Times & dates
As well as turning up on the day, you’ll need to join us for a rehearsal at a city-centre location the day before. Bring your bike!

Sat 6 July: 2–6pm (rehearsal)
Sun 7 July: 11am–6pm (performance)

Women of Manchester
We’re looking for 50-100 women of all ages from Greater Manchester to take part in a mass gathering and poetry performance celebrating women’s voices in St Peter’s Square on Sunday 7 July, led by poet Hafsah Aneela Bashir and director Louise Lowe.

Times & dates:
As well as turning up on the day, you’ll need to join us for a rehearsal at a city-centre location the day before – and you’ll need to wear all white.

Sat 6 July: 10am–1pm (rehearsal)
Sun 7 July: 4–6pm (performance)

  • Which element you’d like to join (PLANES, CYCLISTS, WOMEN)
  • Confirmation that you’re over the age of 18 – or if not, that you have a parent/carer who can give consent for you to take part
  • Confirmation that you’re a resident of Greater Manchester – please confirm in which area you live

We want this opportunity to be accessible as possible and are committed to facilitating the requirements of all participants. Everyone who takes part will be offered a free ticket to attend the world premiere of the second part of The Anvil, a concert at The Bridgewater Hall at 6pm on Sunday 7 July. More info here.
