Xu Bing (b. 1955, China)

Xu Bing’s works are exhibited internationally at museums and institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York and Venice Biennale. His ground breaking calligraphy and printmaking work include his Square Word Calligraphy series where he invented a new way of writing English words that resembles Chinese characters. Since 2003, he has been creating another series called Book from the Ground using symbols in public spheres as a universal language.
