Manchester Camerata

Audiences at The Bridgewater Hall thrilled to an extremely rare visit from legendary pianist Martha Argerich, who joined Manchester Camerata and conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy, a longtime friend and collaborator of the pianist, in a wonderful account of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1. Back in the city after almost 50 years, Argerich responded to Manchester’s heartfelt standing ovation with a welcome encore. The concert also featured performances of Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste and Arvo Pärt’s Lamentate, the latter featuring rising-star pianist David Kadouch.

‘Her own infallible, glistening clarity and sheer glee at Beethoven’s brilliance and wit was met by gentle playing too, subtle enough to hint at the unpredictable, and to make us wonder whether we had ever actually heard this piece before’ The Times
