Manchester International Festival and The Warehouse Project joined forces once again following the success of one of MIF15’s highlights, 10 x 10, for a series of unique nights in Manchester’s immense and atmospheric Mayfield, a former railway station in Manchester.

The collaboration between MIF and WHP, curated with BBC Radio 6 Music’s Mary Anne Hobbs, Special Edition brought an immense musical offering with Bonobo’s international Outlier series, Manchester’s very own Grime King of the North, Bugzy Malone and the mighty Bicep, with visuals from lighting designer Stuart Bailes.

Special Edition was part of a series of pre-Factory events, paving the way for the opening of The Factory, a new major arts space being developed in the heart of the city that will be operated by MIF.

“We knew the collaboration between Manchester International Festival and The Warehouse Project would be special but the attention to detail on the whole production of this event blew us out the water. It’s going to be hard to return to ‘traditional’ gigs after witnessing what is possible when you have a venue like Mayfield.”Manchester’s Finest

“Bicep dominated Mayfield Depot with the crowd in the palm of their hands. Combined with and animated laser light show, the show radiated ‘feel-good’ vibes with ravers, both young and old, appreciating the talents of the duo.”Viva Manchester

“The night ended with a bittersweet goodbye, as we could have stayed for at least another 5 hours dancing the night away. The sound system was ace, there was so much room to dance and the visuals were on point. Nonetheless, Manchester International Festival & the Warehouse Project remain a strong reminder that electronic music is alive and well.”The Noise Gate
