MIF hosts regular drop-in sessions on Zoom where artists and creatives can come together to share experiences and ideas during lockdown. The drop-ins are free, and all artists and creatives are welcome.
On Thursday 17 September, we’ll be joined by James Lavelle and LayFullstop. Stop by and say hi!
This week’s Artist Drop-in is also a good opportunity for anyone interested in applying for MIF Sounds to hear from our new Head of Music, Jane Beese.
James Lavelle has been at the forefront of global club culture for the last 30 years. Founder of the iconic record label Mo’Wax, he’s held residencies at a number of the world’s top nightclubs, and toured the world extensively with UNKLE, with whom he has released a string of UK top 40 albums. In 2014, he was asked to curate Meltdown at London’s Southbank Centre, joining a long list of musical luminaries such as David Bowie, Yoko Ono and Massive Attack. 2018 saw the release of The Man from Mo’Wax, a critically acclaimed documentary about his career.
LayFullstop is a soul and jazz artist from Manchester by way of Birmingham who has positioned herself to be one of the UK’s elite soul artists. Through a host of headline shows across the UK and Europe to support slots with artists such as Bilal and Akala, to name but two, she has developed a distinctive and thoughtful live presence to compliment her sound and message – alongside an impressive and eclectic discography.
