Mayfield Depot

Alongside the eight performances of Massive Attack v Adam Curtis, seven contemporary artists breathed life into the empty spaces of Mayfield Depot. A sense of wonder ran through all the shows staged as part of this daily-changing programme, which included Tino Sehgal’s loose-limbed, generous This variation, Mårten Spångberg’s psychedelic pop tribute Epic and Mette Ingvartsen’s inspirational Evaporated Landscapes. An improvised tearoom helped to make this dusty concrete cathedral a surprisingly welcoming venue.

‘Mette Ingvartsen has created a performance piece full of beauty and composure that examines landscapes, imagination, emotion and memory… utterly charming’ The Independent

Programmed by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Alex Poots, Asad Raza and Tino Sehgal. Commissioned and produced by Manchester International Festival. Commissioning partner for This variation: dOCUMENTA (13).
