The Assembly

In the early 1980s, Rachel Davies spent her teenage years as a member of the Manchester Girls Choir. Although it had a unique, no-auditions policy, the choir became known for the high quality of its performances and went on to win a multitude of prizes. Members of the original choir reassembled for the making of The Assembly, which blended social realism, adolescent fantasy, performance and pop in its celebration of this unique community. The Assembly was part of MIF07’s Manchester Firsts strand, which showcased the dynamism of the local arts scene through a series of new and specially commissioned works.

Commissioned by Manchester International Festival and Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Produced by Manchester International Festival.
